Home Assistant

Home Assistant is pretty sweet if you have never set it up before. I won’t go into the “setup” or install as it’s specific to your needs and there’s plenty of information out there about how to do that. This is more about the oddly specific things I build and setup for me.

goals

With HA, I had a few requirements for what I wanted to be able to manage and pull information from.

Really nothing too crazy. Once HA is up and running it’s more about getting devices that can monitor or do the things you want that integrate with HA.

devices

For power management and monitoring I went with the Kasa KP125M1. They come in a nice 4 pack. Setup is easy, plug them in, configure through the KASA app so they connect to your wifi, then find them in HA devices.

I also have these - Kasa Smart Plug Outlet HS103P42 and this Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip H3003

For temperature monitoring of the refrigerators I went with these Inkbird IBS-TH24 and IBS-TH5.

For setting temperature of the house I have the Google Nest6 and extra sensor7

For Co2 monitoring I have the Aranet48

More on each device later.

sensor setup

Ok, cool - we have a bunch of devices with all sorts of sensors on them. What are we actually trying to do with all this? That’s for another much longer post.
